Hythe by Graham
Lindley 12mm:1ft
16.5mm gauge
The layout depicts the northern terminus of the 15" gauge Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway, which runs for 13.5 miles across Romney Marsh, in Kent. Opened in 1927 by Captain J.E.P. Howey , the line is perhaps best known for its superb fleet of one third scale locomotives.
Hythe station is modelled in its post-1974 condition when the track layout was simplified. The locomotives and rolling stock liveries are some of those adopted since the post-war reopening of the railway in 1946. All the coaching stock is scratch-built as are the locomotive bodies. Use is made of modified proprietary OO gauge loco chassis, if their main dimension are correct.
The Hythe layout is operated to a set sequence lasting about 50 minutes that includes most of the elements of Romney Rail running: track inspection train, some diesel hauled turns, double heading, special charter Parallel Runs, a named train and a licensed Bar Car attached for some services.
