General Information about us
Weymouth Model Railway Association, formed in 1991, is the established and most active local group of railway modellers. Its heritage goes back to the 1980s and amongst its many achievements has been the institution of Weymouth's Annual Model Railway Exhibition, which it solely organises and holds on the last weekend in October. Over the years (first was in 1990) the exhibitions have received much praise, and we believe it is now one of the West Country's exhibitions not to miss; as such we continually strive to improve it, year on year. (Note: the 1989 Model Railway Exhibition in Weymouth was, in fact, the Wessex Association of Model Railway Clubs' hosted by the Upwey & Broadwey MRC, on their behalf - see Early History for full details on how it all started.)
If you have any comment or you'd like to have your say on the local model railway club then you are most welcome to email us: click here. Please use 'Comment' for the subject line in your email to be sure it is brought directly to the attention of the Committee for review/action.
The Association enjoys good working relationships with:-
Although having long-term relationships with some model railway traders through the annual exhibition, neither the Association nor any of its members offer any commercial model railway services; we are enthusiastic and impartial amateurs.
We're a
thriving club with an expanding membership, offering advice
and involvement in model railway projects of various scales
and gauges for the beginner and seasoned modeller, alike.
Members are keen to share their knowledge and expertise, and we
have a new venture for newcomers to the hobby who wish to get
involved in building and operating a simple, but realistic layout. Future proposed
projects under consideration include layouts in OO,
HO or LGB/G scale.
Membership
The Association has a wide ranging
membership from beginner to those offering a
wealth of railway modelling experience - but
we can always use more! Hence new members, male or female, are always
welcome. Membership of the
Association offers the opportunity to learn and
improve skills in all aspects of railway
modelling by participation in the design,
construction and operation of layouts.
The Association is currently sponsoring the
membership in the construction of layouts in N
Gauge, OO Gauge (Finescale & Standard) and O
Gauge. These layouts are at various stages from
just commenced to almost completed. Throughout
the year, members have the opportunity to represent the Association at
other Model Exhibitions.
So, if you're
considering membership of a model railway club, or simply want
to know what it's all about, and live within the area, then
come along - be sure to ask to speak to a member of the
committee - see Contact
Us
page. If you want to know more about the Association before
making contact, in person, then see Early
History and
